********* Quick Documentation For JTutor 1.1 ***********
About:
JTutor is a quiz type application. Whether for business,
school, or personal learning, JTutor can help you study
up on nearly any subject imaginable.
Features multiple choice, true/false, and flash card modes
for asking questions. Also retains the date, and scores
of last 5 attempts at each 'quiz'.
By a simple drag and drop operation, any question/answer
text file can be converted easily into a .pdb file suitable
for usage in JTutor (currently only DOS and Win95 converters
are available, Mac versions are expected to be available in
the future).
So next time your waiting in the doctors office, or taking
a bus to work, pull out JTutor, and study up!
***************************** USAGE *******************************
Creating Your Own Quizzes:
Creating your own quizzes is easy. A text file in the following format is
all that is necesary: the top line has to be the 'Quiz Name' you would like
to have on the Pilot - 31 characters or less. Then the following lines
are one question per line, followed by that question's correct answer on the
next line. (See the 2 .txt files provided with JTutor for further examples
of valid formatting). Each line can have no more than 200 characters for a
question or answer, and you must be sure that a question or answer does not
have any 'return' characters in them.
New for JTutor 1.1 or later: If you want to specify the multiple choice answers
for the same question, you can add them to the answer line in the following
format:
This is question number 1, what is the answer?
Correct Answer 1##Incorrect 2##Incorrect 3##Incorrect 4##Incorrect 5
In other words, place the correct answer first in the answer line, and
seperate the incorrect choices after that with the ## as a seperator - you
must have at least 3 incorrect answers on the line to use this feature.
A question/answer file can have a 'mix' of lines with multiple choice
answers on them and some with only the correct answer - see the mult.txt
file for an example of its usage.
Then just drag the text file you have created on the jtconv.exe (if in DOS),
or jtconv95.exe (if using Windows95) and a new .pdb file will be created for
you. You can then install the .pdb file just as you would install a .prc
file for the PalmPilot, using the InstallApp utility that ships with your
PalmPilot.
Quiz Types:
Flashcard mode - only the question is show, try to answer it, then press
the 'Show Answer' button to see if you were right or wrong.
True/False mode - a question is shown with a possibly true or false
answer, select whether you think the answer is the true one or not. After
you have made you selection, the correct answer will be displayed.
Multiple Choice mode - 4 choices are presented for the question. Pick
the one you think is correct. After you have made your selection, the
correct pick (only) will be displayed.
Quick Mode:
If checked, this will allow the quiz to automatically proceded to the
next question if you answer correctly, thus reducing the number of
pen taps necessary to run through a test.
Question Modes:
Sequential - Cycle through the questions in the database in the order
they were in in the original text file.
Random - show the questions in a random manner.
Number of Questions:
You can select your quiz length from 5 to All The Questions in the quiz.
If you select more questions than are in the quiz, an alert will show to
tell you that the number of questions asked will be the same as the number
of questions in the quiz itself.
Re-ask Incorrect Answers:
This option, if selected will allow JTutor to re-ask those questions that
you answered incorrectly - primarily useful in the random question order
mode. In other words, if you selected a 10 question quiz, answered 2 wrong,
you would be given 12 total questions, which include the 2 that will be
asked again.
Scoring Screen:
The scoring screen at the end of taking a quiz shows you the dates
of the last 5 times you took the quiz, the number of questions asked,
the number you got correct, and the percentage of correct answers.
Deleting a Quiz:
You can delete a quiz on the Pilot by tapping the 'Delete' button
on the main screen of JTutor, and selecting the Quiz you would like
to delete.
